I’ve updated the gallery with photos of Olivia during teh Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon 2022 in Las Vegas where she got to present a new trailer that is yet to be posted online and talk about the movie.

Olivia Wilde brought the 1950s to CinemaCon, showcasing the first look at Harry Styles and Florence Pugh in the psychological thriller “Don’t Worry Darling.”

Movie theater owners at the annual exhibition trade show got a sneak peek of the trailer, which isn’t yet available to the public. The footage opens on Styles and Pugh’s characters snuggling in bed. They play a husband and wife living in an idyllic experimental community in the California desert, lined with perfectly placed palm trees and fancy cars.

On stage at Caesars Palace, where CinemaCon is currently taking place, Wilde shed a little light on the idea behind “Don’t Worry Darling,” which is inspired by “Inception,” “The Matrix” and “The Truman Show.” She calls the movie “a love letter to movies that push the boundaries of our imagination.”

“I want you to imagine a life where you have everything you could want,” she told the crowd of theater owners. “Not just material, tangible things… like a beautiful house, perfect weather and gorgeous cars. But also the things that really matter, like true love or the perfect partner or real trusted friendships and a purpose that feels meaningful.”

It’s a shining late September morning in Los Angeles and Olivia Wilde is sitting, cross-legged, in front of a bunch of bare butts. Male butts, to be exact: smooth and shapely and dripping with water as the men they belong to emerge from a swimming pool in the black-and-white photograph that is on the wall of her sunny living room. “This is how we want them,” Wilde deadpans from her perch on a mustard-colored velvet sofa.

Wilde, who has spent her nearly two-decade-long acting career as an object of male veneration, knows a thing or two about the rewards, and the risks, of being subjected to a prurient, if admiring, gaze. She can count, among her myriad accomplishments, winning the “hottest Olivia” accolade in Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards in 2010; lately, she’s been under the public microscope alongside her beau, Harry Styles, who, on the day of my visit, is off trotting the globe for his Love On Tour concerts. This house is a respite from all that scrutiny. When Wilde rented it this past spring, it had already been furnished in a precisely curated, Instagrammable style; we might be in a Design Within Reach catalog. So Wilde can’t take credit for the cheeky art selection or the cheerful, modern decor, or for the sumptuous backyard pool that beckons from every angle of the first floor. Nor, she laughingly assures me, is she responsible for the two unseasonal gingerbread houses displayed on the kitchen counter, which are the handi­work of her kids, Otis, seven, and Daisy, five, whom she shares with her ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis.

Wilde has been camped out in Los Angeles since the coronavirus arrived during the week of her 36th birthday. At the time, she was living nearby with Sudeikis and preparing to start shooting her second feature film, Don’t Worry Darling, a psychological thriller starring Florence Pugh and Styles as Alice and Jack, a young couple who join a utopian community in the 1950s California desert. Clearly, it’s been a productive pandemic. A year and a half later, Wilde has emerged with a flourishing new relationship and a nearly finished movie. Just before my visit, the appearance of an 11-second teaser-​trailer showing Styles and Pugh making out, Chris Pine screaming in a white tuxedo, Busby Berkeley–style showgirls kaleidoscopically high-kicking, and Pugh trying to rip a cellophane shroud from her face, promptly sent the internet into a fit of ecstatic delirium.

Because of COVID, New Line, which is producing the film, had suggested delaying production until the following year, but Wilde fought to get started as soon as possible; when filming finally began, after a six-month delay, it had to pause twice, each time for a two-week stretch, when someone on set tested positive for COVID. Wilde has no doubt that the extraordinary challenges of shooting under such conditions were worth it. “Every bone in my body knew we had to make it when we did,” she tells me. “I couldn’t be deterred.”

Don’t Worry Darling is slated to be released in September 2022. Wilde has been holed up at home to edit the film, though she finds time to decompress; her TV show of choice has been the HBO Max comedy Hacks. As an East Coast native, she hasn’t totally managed to shake her instinctive skepticism of Los Angeles. “But then this….” She gestures outdoors, letting the pool and the glorious sunshine speak for themselves. “And for kids, it is so much easier. A beauty campaign is no exception: To mark Wilde’s fifth anniversary as chief brand activist of True Botanicals, the all-natural, sustainably sourced skin-care line out of California, she’s starring in a new campaign, one that she had complete creative control over and hinges on a message she’s intent on driving home. “Sustainability is sexy,” says Wilde. She’s intent on upending the idea that luxury and consciously crafted beauty have to be mutually exclusive.

“People tend to equate indulgence with something naughty,” Wilde tells Vogue. “If it’s environmentally responsible, if it is better for your health, it can’t be indulgent. I think we need to dig deep to reconstruct the cliché surrounding sustainability in beauty and allow people to understand that they can indulge in skin care and feel like they are treating themselves, even if it’s something that’s actually very good for the environment.”

Lensed by photographer Guy Aroch, the unretouched True Botanicals campaign finds Wilde proudly owning her sensuality in various states of undress. Beyond promoting the line’s products, it’s meant to explore themes of confidence and control of one’s form—allowing Wilde, who has become increasingly under the microscope following her separation from longtime fiancé Jason Sudeikis and new relationship with Harry Styles, to decide how she wants to present herself as a woman and mother. “[When it comes to] our relationship to our bodies and celebrating our bodies, we all come to that from very different perspectives and experiences,” explains Wilde. “I am someone who has had two babies, I’m in my late 30s, and I love my body now more than I ever have. I enjoy the opportunity to take care of myself. That’s what my beauty ritual is: taking care of myself and celebrating my body at this stage of my life.” Here, Wilde talks through her vision for the campaign, combatting stigmas around the female body, her current beauty and wellness routine, and how she’s avoiding the social media trap.

Vogue: Congrats on five years with True Botanicals! It’s been such an incredible partnership to watch evolve. The campaign is so striking and beautiful. Could you talk me through your vision and how you brought it to life?

Olivia Wilde: It just came out of a conversation about how there’s seemingly nothing inherently dangerous, irresponsible, and therefore sexy about sustainability. This is not to criticize the way consumers operate. It’s just something that is a part of reconstructing patterns in consumerism and eventually going to help change the way that we interact with the environment itself. Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt and Diego Calva, along with Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li and Katherine Waterston lead the roll call for the production, slated to go before cameras next week in L.A.

Max Minghella, Lukas Haas, Flea, Rory Scovel, Samara Weaving, Eric Roberts, P.J. Byrne and Damon Gupton are also part of the sprawling cast.

Deepak Nayar of Riverstone and Marisa Clifford of Pulse will exec produce along with Wilde and Sandahl.

An intimate and unflinching portrait of grit and determination, Perfect charts the story behind Kerri Strug’s historic Olympic vault to secure America’s first ever gymnastics team gold.

Since her directorial debut on the coming-of-age-comedy Booksmart, studios have been lining up to work with Wilde. When she attached herself to the Perfect package at last year’s EFM, Searchlight moved fast to land rights the script paying $15 million for global rights. [Source]

Olivia Wilde is spinning up a new Marvel film for Sony. The filmmaker behind Booksmart will direct a female-centered film as part of Sony’s growing Universe of Marvel Characters, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Wilde, who spent most of her career thus far on the acting side, broke out as a filmmaker with 2019’s Booksmart, which earned strong reviews and made her a sought after director. She is penning the Marvel script with Booksmart scribe Katie Silberman. Amy Pascal is producing with Rachel O’Connor executive produce.

Sony has a number of Spider-Man adjacent films in various stages of development, including Tom Hardy’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Jared Leto’s Morbius, with are both due out in 2021. S.J. Clarkson is developing her own female-centered movie, while Marc Guggenheim, known for his work on TV’s Arrowverse, is writing a film as well.
