Olivia Wilde, Spike Jonze, Phoebe Tonkin and Tobey Maguire have joined the call sheet of Babylon, the ode to Hollywood’s golden age that Damien Chazelle is directing for Paramount Pictures.

Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt and Diego Calva, along with Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li and Katherine Waterston lead the roll call for the production, slated to go before cameras next week in L.A.

Max Minghella, Lukas Haas, Flea, Rory Scovel, Samara Weaving, Eric Roberts, P.J. Byrne and Damon Gupton are also part of the sprawling cast.

Written by Chazelle and set in the late 1920s during the movie industry’s transition from silent films to talkies, Babylon explores the rise and fall of multiple characters. Around town, the project has been described as “The Great Gatsby on steroids.” (more at source)

Following an extensive search, director Olivia Wilde looks to have found her Kerri Strug setting Leave No Trace breakout Thomasin McKenzie to play the Olympian gymnast in Perfect for Searchlight. Wilde will direct from a script by Ronnie Sandahl. Nik Bower & Jeremy Baxter will produce through Riverstone Pictures along with Thomas Benski & Moss Barclay who will produce through Pulse Films. Deepak Nayar of Riverstone and Marisa Clifford of Pulse will exec produce along with Wilde and Sandahl.

An intimate and unflinching portrait of grit and determination, Perfect charts the story behind Kerri Strug’s historic Olympic vault to secure America’s first ever gymnastics team gold.

Since her directorial debut on the coming-of-age-comedy Booksmart, studios have been lining up to work with Wilde. When she attached herself to the Perfect package at last year’s EFM, Searchlight moved fast to land rights the script paying $15 million for global rights. [Source]

Olivia Wilde is spinning up a new Marvel film for Sony. The filmmaker behind Booksmart will direct a female-centered film as part of Sony’s growing Universe of Marvel Characters, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Wilde, who spent most of her career thus far on the acting side, broke out as a filmmaker with 2019’s Booksmart, which earned strong reviews and made her a sought after director. She is penning the Marvel script with Booksmart scribe Katie Silberman. Amy Pascal is producing with Rachel O’Connor executive produce.

Sony has a number of Spider-Man adjacent films in various stages of development, including Tom Hardy’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Jared Leto’s Morbius, with are both due out in 2021. S.J. Clarkson is developing her own female-centered movie, while Marc Guggenheim, known for his work on TV’s Arrowverse, is writing a film as well. Sony is also teaming with Disney’s Marvel Studios for a third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland dated for December 2021. [More at Source]

Little Women Oscar nominee Florence Pugh, Shia LaBeouf and Chris Pine are set to star in Olivia Wilde’s genre feature Don’t Worry Darling at New Line.

Deadline first broke the news about the auction for Wilde’s highly anticipated follow-up directorial after last summer’s Booksmart, with New Line winning the deal to finance and distribute.

Pugh will be the lead in the psychological thriller which is set in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950s California desert. Wilde will also star, as we previously reported, as well as direct and produce. BAFTA nominated screenwriter Katie Silberman, who was one of the writers on Booksmart, is writing the Don’t Worry Darling screenplay based on a spec script by Shane and Carey Van Dyke. Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon will produce with Wilde and Silberman Catherine Hardwicke will executive produce alongside Shane and Carey Van Dyke. Don’t Worry Darling is being overseen by New Line executives Richard Brener, Daria Cercek and Celia Khong. [Source]
